When travelling from Zagreb to Rijeka, the view of Skrad usually leaps over the 350 metres deep valley hidden in the woods, and it precisely in this valley that one can find the two geomorphological-hydrographical phenomena of Gorski kotar – Vrazji prolaz (Devil’s Pass) and Zeleni Vir (the Green Whirl).

By means of powerful erosion, Jasle creek carved a picturesque, narrow canyon in limestone: Devil’s Pass. During heavy rainfalls, it is difficult to escape the impression that the storming waters might easily carry away the path, along with the visitors and rocks that have them cramped at only a few metres.

The Green Whirl is a vigorous cavern well, springing up under the 70 metres high and sheer cliff. Two small creeks flow over this cliff, creating a unique complex of waterfalls, rocks, caves, springs, and rivers.

Speaking of caves, in Lokve, the oldest area in Gorski kotar, there is the Lokvarka cave, about 2000 years old. The length of the cave is 1200 metres, while the height-altitude difference equals 140 metres. The cave is divided into four galleries, three of which are arranged for visitors. The temperature in the cave is about 6 – 80 Celsius, during all seasons

In Lokve, one should also not fail to visit Golubinjak forest-park with tall coniferous trees. Up until recently, this was the residence of a giant fir called the Queen of the Forests, 37 metres tall and about 200 years old. There are also two attractive caves: Ledena (the Ice Cave) and Golubinjak. During your tour of Lokve, make sure you pay a visit to Lake Lokvarsko in which you can even bathe in the summer, and if fishery is your passion, you will most certainly enjoy fishing for trout, carp, chub and other fresh-water fish.

Vode Gorskoga kotara, rijeke Kupa, Dobra i Čabranka te tri goranska jezera  pružaju neiscrpno zadovoljstvo čak i najstrastvenijim ribičima. Goranske vode obiluju ribom,  pastrvom, šaranom, štukom, klenom, lipljanom, mrenom i drugim vrstama.
